I've just had a phone call from a guy who needs help with his bookkeeping. He thinks his previous bookkeeper has made a mess of the last two vat returns. He is based in Coventry, he thinks it will take around 3 days to sort out the current issues and then around 2 to 3 days a month. He is on Quick books and he would want the bookkeeper to go on site. This is why I have not taken it any further as I do not go on site. I have said that I may know someone who is good but it would cost around £20 per hour which he wasn't too worried about. His business is exporting something to do with petro-chemicals to Africa (he is African but speaks perfect English). I need to get back to him reasonably quickly if there is anyone local enough to commit to this who feels suitably qualified.
Thought that Amanda would jump on this one at the mere mention of Quickbooks.
Mind you, the business area and country that he's in it could be a Customer Due Diligence nightmare.
I know from banking that two countries that you really don't want to do business with are Nigeria and Burma.
Talk in a bit,
Shaun.
P.S. And before you say anything I know that Burma isn't in Africa!

yes I thought there would be a few takers. This guy sounded ok, he is based in Coventry and I think exports to Libya...but maybe worth keeping a wide berth of!
Yes I thought at £20 per hour someone reasonably local may have taken me up on it! Never mind! However my biggest client is based on Isle of Wight, but I only go down there occasionally and when I do I charge my time out. Hope you are picking up plenty of work.
I think the travelling from Aberdeen may be a tad onerous for you!
Hi Bev, the guy is only a couple of miles from me but I can't fit it in, I am considering taking somebody on who can be sent out, that way I'd make £10 per hour, but it is a bit too much hassle at the moment! Obviously nobody else on here in my immediate locale.
Its worth asking though isnt it? I work from home as well but, main job is for an accountants. Im having to turn work down as people want work done at their premises but, not enough customers at the moment to give up my "steady income" and dont want to as yet, in this recession.
