Hi Guys,

Could someone please help me?  I have a client who was based in Germany for the 2011-2012 tax year, she is self-employed.  She had to travel back to the UK for courses during the year and also to oversee repairs on her rented out property.

She used her car and on occasion flew back.  Can these expenses be claimed back?

Can she also claim back her food for the overnight trips for the courses she had to attend?

Any help would be very much appreciated smile

Many thanks, adele.

My first thought was depends.........

Courses - unless its CPD type courses (something to maintain a existing skill) then no they and the related costs are not allowable.

The rental... possibly.... But if she also came back to do a course which is not allowable duality of purposes would render these costs not allowable.
