Changing Payroll software part way through the year?
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question today, if I took on Payroll for someone which had already been started by somone else on different software, how easy is it to tranfer to 12 pay?

At the moment the payroll is done by someone else but if it comes my way how easy is it to change over?  It will involve 2 people one of which is a Director.

cheers

Amanda, As long as you can get the P11 documents from the previous payroll system it is easy to switch. 12Pay (and I expect many other payroll software packages) offers a way of quickly and easily entering brought-forward P11 totals partway through a year. You need the P11s because the NI banded earnings figures aren't usually available without them.

I moved from 12pay to MyPAYE and found it just as easy to rerun the payroll as like yourself it was only a few people.

That's a good point. Early in the PAYE year, particularly with monthly payrolls and a low number of employees, it can be easier to just parallel run 3-4 months than it is to glean the required information from the old software's P11s.

Yes, particularly near the start of the year. In Jan-Mar the answer might be different. Also it can depend on things like how constant the employee's pay is and if it does vary how good the records of what was paid each month are.

That's how I do it.

Shaun.
