Vat on client entertainment in eu
Permalink Closed

Hi guys, I have a client who are a limited company providing consultancy services in UK and some of Europe. They are organising an evening reception in Portugal for around 200 people, predominantly clients, including venue hire food and drink. Supplier has asked for vat number and presumably going to invoice net. I was wondering if anyone could give a guide re treatment - as this is client entertainment is the vat not recoverable? In which case how would it go on the vat return? They use QB desktop as accounting system by the way. Cheers Sam

There is a risk that the client will become liable to register for VAT in Portugal! He seems to be making supplies there; whether it is of catering or entertainment is worth determining.

I dont even recall seeing this post! oops

Issue of possible BIK for staff as well, given the 'predominantly' clients comment.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
