Sage - change VAT return status
Permalink Closed

Hi all

I've submitted my VAT return to HMRC in Sage Instant Account V16.
However, I'd forgotten that I sent the backup to my accountant to do the year end, which arrived back this evening.

I've redone the VAT return in the version from my accountant, but don't want to submit it again as it would be a duplicate VAT return to HMRC.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Alex

I assume that you restored the backup from your accountant after you'd run the VAT return the first time? Were the two returns different?

Hi Pauline

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I restored the backup from my accountant. The only difference between my old backup and my accountant's is that I created and submitted the VAT return on my old one. The returns are identical.

Alex

If the actual returns are the same why not reconcile the VAT return on SAGE and leave it as that as you have already submitted the return to HMRC.

Means that when you do the next VAT return you will be starting from the same position you would have in your old version.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark
I've done that already, I'm just concerned that trying to pay a pending return might be an issue down the line.

Hi Alex
I'd be interested in this too as I have a client whose VAT return failed through Sage so I submitted direct on the HMRC website. Obviously the Sage record still says pending and for neatness I'd like it to say submitted!

Anyone know the answer to this one?
CLare
