Email notification of P6
Permalink Closed

Hello Folks

I just started at a new company and have noticed a couple of emails purporting to be from HMRC containing enclosures which are changes to tax codes - ie P6s.   I think the email is spam.  I seem to recall that HMRC would email you to notify that you had to log on to get the P6s direct from the HMRC website, rather than actually enclosing them on an email direct  - is my understanding correct?

Hi Joanne,
I would be wary of opening any attachments. My notifications go straight to my sage payroll program via the secure mailbox and I get emails direct from hmrc alerting me to log in to hmrc and retrieve from there, never had an attachment.

Hi Joanne,

I had quite a few of those recently as well. They all contained .zip files. In fact I've had quite a few not from HMRC that have attached .zip files as well. Have deleted every single one of them! Must be something doing the rounds.

I can't get codes straight into the software and have ended up using the HMRC desktop viewer. I run the it on computer start up and just find it more convenient than email.

Hi Don Tax
Your user name scares me - I always think of the Godfather! The godfather of HMRC!

Thanks for the link - Ive not figured out yet if the P6s are generated via the customers software (they use 12Pay and Im not up to speed with it yet!), but that link is a good one to try - so I will. Thank you.

Oh no need to be afraid. It came from Don Quixote, a well meaning character who had unfortunately laid down the burden of sanity. :o)
