I have been working in payroll for a few years now doing client payrolls and I was wondering about the possibility of working as an EMEA Payroll Specialist or as it is also called sometimes International Payroll Specialist.
Has anyone here had an experience of working in this role? Is this a very stressful job and do you need to do long hours?
Would be very grateful to hear about the experiences of people who work in the area.
So hows about a bit more on the intro before we start. We always ask newbies!
Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, are you a bookkeeper or accountantor or just a payroll specialist, what qualifications, first role/previous experience, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, do you have an EMEA qual, where based, what you did before this role? Is this role available via your current workplace or are you looking for another job. That so of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.
I wouldnt consider the international focus on payroll would be any more of a stressful job/any specific need to work long hours, albeit you may need to put in extra hours whilst learning the role, plus maybe some shift style changes for time zone changes depending on where your clients are based. (Longer hours may be par for the course if this is a very senior management/Director level role in a larger organisation.)

About myself: I am a payroll specialist with a few years of experience in payroll and I have two payroll qualifications achieved with the International Association of Bookkeepers. I had a little bit of exposure to an international payroll in one of my previous roles and am exploring the possibility of doing just EMEA payrolls - looking for the role in the EMEA payroll area.
Did you used to do/or currently doing international payrolls?
Hi Irina I don't do international payroll, but from all the job ads I've seen and (from working in a large international company in a past life) they all seem to want the EMEA qualification.
Other option of course is to consider the wider market by taking the CIPP exams, sure you might find massive chunks of that a breeze with your background and would possibly open some more doors within the generic market place.
Have to say I don't recall seeing anyone of here who has EMEA but worth hanging around a few days to see if you get any other responses and maybe even bump your comment in say a week. To bump something just add another comment on the bottom.
Good luck whatever you go with.
