Problems with HMRC

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone else has had any problems with HMRC Self-Assessment, I tried to authorise a client yesterday and it is still showing "awaiting code" and I also submitted an authorisation code and the client has not appeared on my client list, I did speak to HMRC and they have said it is due to a back log!

Is anyone else having problems?

Hi Doug.  If you only requested the authorisation yesterday you have to wait for HMRC to send a code to your client, which usually takes a week or two.

When submitting a code it takes up to 72 hours to appear on your list of SA clients, although I've found it's usually on there the next day.

Hi John

Thanks for reply, I know it takes a while for my client to receive the code but it just seems strange that it is only showing on my list "awaiting code" usually it will show "code issued" and then they receive it within 10 days.

Same with me submitting the code usually they appear on my client list the next day but this one has not, I did speak to HMRC and they said what you have just told me that it could take up to 72 hours, maybe I have just been spoilt in the past.

Cheers

Ah right, sorry, I think I misunderstood you slightly.  I did 3 last week and they all say code issued, but I didn't take note of what it said when I requested authorisation.

 Hi Doug

Isnt there another small box that needs a tick at the awaiting code stage?  Im sure I noticed something a bit odd when I did a couple recently, but was only half awake at the time!

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks for the replies

All sorted now just seems to have taken a bit longer than usual, but as HMRC said it is a busy time of year
